Milk Kefir Grains
The first time we began brewing our own milk kefir, none of us were fans. That episode, about a decade ago, was short-lived. However, last year we began using them again. We still are not fans of the taste of straight milk kefir*, but we are big fans of the benefits of it. With dozens times more beneficial bacteria than yogurt (which we also love and use), kefir can colonize your gut with that bacteria and help create a better gut microbiota and address inflammation.
An interesting anecdotal aside: one of our dogs is quite elderly and has struggled for some time with the usual issues of old age. However, when we are feeding him leftover kefir we see a marked difference in his alertness and energy level.
You will receive a heaping teaspoon of milk kefir grains and starter kefir.
*We now use kefir nearly exclusively in breakfast smoothies and no one can tell it’s any different than yogurt-based smoothies.
