Our family has many ideals. We try to keep our food as natural as possible and to grow as much of it ourselves as we can. We try to keep the products we use in our home pure and simple. We seek to tap into the incredible healing and nourishing properties found in nature.

For instance, we love that, used right, Comfrey heals skin, and that fermented drinks heal the gut. We are fascinated by the air-purifying abilities of house plants, and the health benefits of sourdough.

There have been times in our lives when we didn’t have the knowledge or capacity to make our own health and household products or grow plants from seed. It took us decades of experimenting and learning - and along the way, we wished we had more options. and resources. If you find yourself in that place, we hope that Mother can be that for you.

We know we are blessed to live the lifestyle we live, and if we can help others on their journey by sharing what we have, that makes us pretty happy.

Who “we” are:
We’re the Surplus Family. Actually, our family is much bigger than our current household, but what you’ll find in our store has mostly been lovingly made by Shawnele and the three youngest kids still at home: Kasen (15), Jewell (13), and Sadie (12). Dad, Clint, is happy to provide encouragement, support, and quality control - especially of the baked goods!

Born and raised in Central Oregon, you’ll find us located just north of Tumalo, living the dream.
